I live in Bengaluru. I’ve been working as an Oracle Apps DBA — a database administrator — for nearly 14 years.
I love reading novels. In 2012, I read about 18 books in less than five months. One of my earliest reading memories is a Kannada mystery novel that I only read halfway through. I cannot remember its name, but one word from it has stayed with me: kalebara.
I have read biographies of Swami Vivekananda and A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, and a Kannada translation of My Experiments with Truth. My reading has also taken me through Nicholas Sparks’s tragic romances, Harry Potter, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire, Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie. There have been many others too.
I tend to explain things at length. I want to understand and be understood, and I often have more to say than I know how to put into a few lines. This journal gives me somewhere to write those thoughts down.
I really want to see Bengaluru clean and India clean. Some of my writing starts with what I see near my own gate: the waste we separate, the collection that mixes it again, and the litter that ends up on the road. Other posts are hopes for things I would like to see, from a revived Vrishabhavathi to more affordable places to watch a film.
There are personal letters here too. I care about words and what it means when someone wants to read them.
I write from my own experience. When I use a rule or a number, I link to the source. When an idea is still a hope or a guess, I try to say so. I want to leave room to learn and to correct myself.
